95 740il bmw not starting?

hi, i have 1995 bmw 740il and i replaced the starter and the battery and the engine still won't even turn over. everthing lights up and the battery is charged and i installed the starter correctly and it just won't start

Have you checked your relays?



The easy way to troubleshoot these is pull the first one out and set it aside. Pull the second one and plug it in where the first one was, then pull the third and plug it where the second one was.



Do that until you've gone through to the last relay (thou I think there's only 3 anyhow), then plug the first relay into the last open slot.



You just rotated your relays.



If no relays are bad, you will see no change.



If one relay is bad, it will not fix your problem but your problem will relocate, meaning now the starter should work but something else will be the matter... In this case, you'll have to get a manual to isolate the one that got moved FROM the previous trouble spot TO the new trouble location.



Also, run a 12v voltage sensor down to the starter and hook it up to the terminals at the starter, then have someone 'click' the key over, and see if you notice any voltage readings on the diagnostic device.
