Good? That thing's a damn tank. The old school 3's are very reliable...like seriously. IF the previous buyer took good care of maintaining the engine/suspension/transmission/etc and you continue to do so, it should last you that long...if it's not a big deal to you, engine swap for a lower mi. engine (look @ junkyards or get the engine from a well known company...that's wat i do)

I dont know much, but I figure, that if you like the car, and you care for it, you should be able to get at least 3 years.
you have heard correctly. (i think) its a funny way that you quoted that. bmw is forsure a great running car. the motors are strong and tranny is strong too. no question.

but think about this. it takes more then a strong motor to be a strong car. case in point 1985 - 1995 subaru had the legacy and then the the impressa with the 1.8l H motor. very nice motor you can't kill it. (well ok dont put oil in it but you kno wwhat i meen) but if it weren't for the subaru rusting out like they were on a pile of salt, there would be more subarus then toyota's.

bmw problem is electrical. 87 is going to be a money pit. i'd spend the money on a honda civic. unless you buy newer (2000+) which is obviously diffrent price range.
a 20 yr old car...for 5-6 MORE yrs...hahahaha
