What's wrong with my bmw?

I just replaced the radiator coolant from my bmw yesterday, after taking the coolant liquid out I was adding the new one, but when I was putting the new coolant the engine started to get hot and the air that's supposed come out never came out. It's a 1989 BMW 525i, 6 cyl engine. Anyone have any idea what I might need to do or what's wrong with it?

The engine started to get hot? Sounds like you tried to add coolant with the engine running. Don't. And in bleeding the system (described below), don't start the engine until step 3.

Here is the bleed procedure for your M30 engine. Begin with engine off and cold, but ignition to dash-lights-on position, heater on and heat control set to maximum. This ensures the heater control valve is open so that the heating system gets filled.

1. Loosen bleeder screw on thermostat housing.

2. Fill up system with coolant mixture by slowly pouring into a coolant funnel in the neck of the reserve tank. The funnel should extend down past the overflow aperture in the neck. Pour until mixture spills out the bleed hole AND is clear of air bubbles. Tighten the bleed screw quickly - don't let the coolant mixture level in the tank drop drop below the bottom of the neck if possible. Replace %26 tighten the tank cap.

3. Start engine, let run til it reaches normal operating temperature (and with the heater on full blast). Shut engine off, and if coolant is below the full mark in the reserve tank, add mixture to the full mark. Replace the tank cap if you topped off the tank.

4. Repeat step 3 again in a day or two.
