um..... if you have the money then bmw is by far the better car out of the two. The mustang if refered to as the poor mans sports car for a reason, because it is a poor car. the bmw will last longer retain its value longer plus everyone has a mustang so you will be better looking in you car.

definitely,BMW is the law!
The mustang is a pretty cool car, but it has nothing on a BMW. One would only get a mustang if they could not afford the bmw.
bmw 3 series is so much better... evne if you are talkign abut the newest model of mustang.
I agree with the people who say that you're going to make mistakes with your first car. You're going to make maintenance and repair mistakes (even choosing which mechanic to use). You're going to make driving mistakes and possibly wreck your first car. This is particularly true if you haven't driven your parents' or friends' vehicles much (I'm talking years).
Therefore, I must suggest that you look for a convertible which is forgiving on the road, forgiving when you make maintenance faux-paws, and relatively cheap. Look at something like a VW Cabrio. It is fast (albeit not as fast as a 'Stang or a "Beamer"). I have a Golf (the hard-top to the Cabrio) with a stock 2.0L 4-cylinder under the hood. I've taken the speedometer up to 119 mph on the open road. Hey, VW is German and VW owns Bentley, Bughatti, and Lamborghini. The Cabrio has a built-in roll bar, so if you spin out and flip (unlikely in a FWD German car with independent suspension), you're not likely to be crushed.
