I checked the owner's manual and can't find an answer. I'll just be driving along and all of a sudden, I'll hear three low beeps (that sound like a bell tone) but nothing comes up on my dashboard as a warning. One beep happens if I go over my assigned speed limit, but the 3 beeps is a mystery. So, does any BMW expert out there know what this 3 low beeps in a row might mean?

It's the "memo" setting ony your on board computer reminding you to, according to the German engineers, tune into the news for important headlines every hour on the hour. You may have noticed it sounding just before the hour. Silly in my opinion to warn you to listen to the radio but not make the slightest peep during an ever-so-damaging overheat.

That happens when you go over three times the assigned speed limit :)
the beeps are a warning to tell you that the speed you set it at has been reached at to slow to 2-4 miles slower or set it to 80 and that should stop the noise. it is just to make you look at the speed to remind you that the speed you are at is where you set it at in case your dash lights go out and can not see how fast you are going.
Sometimes the beeps are to warn you of road conditions. Example: if the temperature drops below 0(oC) and the roads might be icey the car beeps to warn you. It may also beep because it thinks a tail/brake/headlight is out. It could also be just a bad sensor, check the connections under the hood to be sure.
